Ethos and Values
Academy ethos
At Harris Primary Academy Merton we aim to treat everybody with respect. All adults in the academy are responsible for modelling high standards of behaviour in their dealings with children, parents and other members of staff. All children are treated fairly, but we also acknowledge individual needs. We expect all of our children to work to the best of their abilities and to allow others to do the same. Our Golden rules underpin our academy ethos:
Academy values
At Harris Primary Academy Merton we follow a set of important values, which follows the acronym 'HPAM' so that the children can remember and embody them as they continue their learning journey with us. Through assemblies and lessons in class, we promote and teach these values to our pupils which support them develop the skills to become good citizens. The values have a positive impact on our pupil’s social and emotional development as well as ensuring they behave well.
Honesty
We encourage children to understand what honesty is and that when you are truthful, your actions are sincere. Honesty is the foundation for trust and building relationships.
Positivity
Children are championed to think positive things not only of themselves but of others too. Positivity demonstrates that you are hopeful and confidence, allowing children to think of the good aspects of a situation rather than the bad ones. Thinking positively can help our mental health and well-being, therfore boosting the confidence that we need both inside our school and out. By having a positive attitude towards things and believing in all of their capabilities, children can be successful.
Appreciation
Appreciation is about recognising the good qualities of someone or something. At HPAM, we encourage children to appeciate others and be accepting of their differences from themselves. It is important that our students appreciate their own individuality as well as the ideas and opinions of others so that they can continue to be good citizens of our school. Appreciation helps children understand the concept of gratitude and this is an important aspect of life for everyone.
Motivation
Being motivated and having motivation is the drive to do things; it is the incentive or strong desire to succeed or do well - something all HPAM children should strive for. Having motivation can make us believe that we are capable of achieving anything that we set our mind to. We hope that our pupils have enthusiasm and determination in their learning journey with us.
