Pupil Leadership
At Harris Primary Academy Merton, we believe every child has the potential to lead. We provide a wide range of opportunities for pupils to develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork and communication skills, while making a meaningful contribution to school life.
Our student leadership roles ensure that pupils have a voice, can support one another, and play an active role in shaping our school community. Through the School Council, children represent the views of their peers and help influence decisions that improve the academy. Our Eco Warriors champion environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices, while our House Captains act as positive role models, inspiring others across the school.
These opportunities encourage pupils to become active, responsible citizens and help them build the skills and confidence they need for the future, both in school and beyond.
We encourage our children to strive for greatness by allowing them to develop strong leadership skills.
School Committees
At HPAM, we have two committees who meet regularly to ensure that our school is the best that it can be. The children vote for their representative in polling booths to replicate a real election.
We have a representative from each class in:
School Council
Eco Warriors
Houses
Every year, children in Y6 apply for a position as a house captain; Y5 apply for a vice captain position.

Sports Leaders
Across the year we encourage our Year 5 students to apply for our sports leadership roles. Once selected, they strive to become confident and resilient sport and physical activity leaders. These young leaders are trained to motivate younger pupils to become more active during their school day (and beyond), through the regular delivery of multi skills clubs at lunch times and other activities throughout the year.
One of the trainers commented on one of our sports leaders growth during the process, saying "she progressed from feeling nervous and doubtful, to feeling confident, capable, and empowered. Her reflections of her role show that the experience helped her build
essential skills while also supporting her emotional development."
We are always looking for new and exciting ways to strengthen student leadership and pupil voice. If you have any ideas or suggestions for additional opportunities, we would love to hear from you. Please contact a member of the Senior Leadership Team to share your thoughts and support us in developing leadership across the academy.
